Visual Design Evaluation to Build Trust in the Health & Nutrition Category

Consumers today are not just buying products in the health and nutrition space, they are buying trust. Every color, symbol, word and packaging element impacts how a brand is perceived. Before a consumer reads a claim, the packaging has already sent a message about whether the product feels credible, scientific, modern or approachable.

MarketGenics has recently been engaged by a leading strategic brand consultancy to carry out a full Visual Design Evaluation Study for a health and nutrition brand. The aim was simple but vital: to produce deep qualitative insights that would help shape the brand’s visual identity, communication style and packaging strategy.

Key Insights

The study showed that trust in the health and nutrition category is influenced by a fine balance of visual appeal, clarity and scientific credibility. Consumers and healthcare professionals were aligned in their preference for clean, well-structured designs with benefit-led messaging, moving away from cluttered or outdated looks. Visuals that told stories of real health journeys with hope and recovery had more impact, and fresh nature-inspired colors better communicated wellness and vitality than darker clinical tones. Participants also liked simple, meaningful icons and simple language that communicated scientific credibility without being overblown. Overall, the findings verified that successful health-nutrition branding involves a balance between credibility, emotional connection, and modern design to build trust and motivate purchase behavior.

Why Visual Design Evaluation Matters?

Packaging frequently serves as a consumer's initial point of contact with a brand in fiercely competitive markets like nutrition and health. Beyond only drawing attention, a strong design communicates credibility, boosts self-esteem, and quickly influences consumer choices. By evaluating innovative concepts with the people who matter most—consumers and category experts—Visual Design Evaluation assists brands in moving beyond subjective perceptions.
